Medical Transcriptionists
Medical Transcriptionists (MT) are in increasing demand, especially due to the aging of the population. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), “A high level of demand for transcription services also will be sustained by the continued need for electronic documentation that can easily be shared among providers, third-party payers, regulators, consumers, and health information systems”.
According to the BLS, “The majority of these workers are employed in comfortable settings, such as hospitals, physicians’ offices, transcription service offices, clinics, laboratories, medical libraries, government medical facilities, or their own homes”. Other sources include nursing homes, home healthcare agencies, insurance companies, and legal offices.
Because pay is usually production based, the faster and more efficient the MT, the higher his/her income potential.
As one becomes advanced in this profession, his/her income potential can be outstanding.
Being credentialed can set you apart from the competition.
Earnings depend upon education, experience, and geographic region
According to the BLS, “Employers prefer to hire transcriptionists who have completed postsecondary training in medical transcription….”
